Sight Words Lists
Fry's Instant Word List or Fry's List of sight words is a list made up of 1,000 of some of the most coarse words in the English language that children need to know in order to construct a mighty vocabulary. Studies and explore has shown that the first 300 words make up 65% of all written material contained in newspaper articles, magazines, textbooks, children's stories, novels, and more. Children who memorize these words will construct into more effective and smoother readers.
Sight Words Lists
A simple sight words definition for these high-frequency words is: they are coarse words that a reader should recognize instantly, automatically, and on sight. Sight word lists are a group of words or a set of words typically ranked by frequency of their use. Often times these leading words are also ordered alphabetically. These leading words are geared towards a particular grade level. Generally, these words are taught to children in preschool grade, first grade, second grade and in some cases in third or fourth grade. The two most coarse sight words lists that teachers/educators and schools use for teaching their students are Dolch List of Basic Sight Words (220 "service" words -- pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs), and Fry's Instant Sight Words (300 sight words).
The size of sight word lists varies depending on the type of list used. There are many word lists available. There are many variations. These are often broken down into smaller sets targeting a definite grade level, such as word lists for preschool straight through fourth grade.
