"A Bad Case of the Stripes" lesson Plan Ideas

A Bad Case of the Stripes, written by David Shannon, is a story about a young girl who is so involved with what other people thinks, she begins to break out in "stripes." Her worst fears come true as others laugh and ridicule her for finding different. The character must learn what "being yourself" means and how to overcome fears about self-acceptance and empathy. The illustrations are also very colorful and will keep elementary children entertained over and over again. A Bad Case of the Stripes is listed at a 3.5 reading book level, so it is standard for students who are reading at least at a mid third-grade level.

A Bad Case of the Stripes can also be utilized with many different activities to heighten the understanding level of the reading. Students could begin by using pictures or words to make a class list of beloved least beloved foods. Using a spreadsheet agenda to make a graph would also consolidate technology. Another idea is for students to make a lima bean method at home with a parent. They could then type the method and attach a photograph of your work at home, along with a recapitulate of the method to turn in.

Additional activities to be used with A Bad Case of the Stripes would be for children to sort a bag of different varieties of beans by size, color, and shape, and use a Venn diagram template to draw the sorting. By reiterating to the students that the cover of the book is quite colorful, you can then have them originate a new cover for the book. On the back of the page, clarify what the cover means, what was changed, and why. If you want to request for retrial to your linguistic students, feel free to assign a journal entry that is written to Camilla Cream. They should tell of something they also liked at first, but found out others did not. The children could give her tips for how to do things even if others do not approve.

There are a great many activities that can be used with the novel A Bad Case of the Stripes, and even more that students may also be able to suggest. The main idea is to have fun and enjoy reading, while tantalizing in tantalizing summaries and episode ideas within the content. Keep reading!

2nd Grade Spelling Words and Skills

No.1 Article of 3Rd Grade Math Practice

Which spelling words are the most foremost ones for you to teach to your 2nd grader? We'll explicate two types of words on which you should focus. Then we'll give you a list of 100 basic 2nd grade spelling words.

1. High-frequency words confident words are used more than any others in the English language. The Dolch list of sight words and the Fry list of instant words both comprise high-frequency words. Since these appear most often in print, second graders should identify them on sight; that is, without stopping to think and sound out the word. These are "service" words, such as after, does, and such.

3Rd Grade Math Practice

But students will also be writing these same words a lot. So they need to learn how to spell them easily, too. Practice these words frequently.

2nd Grade Spelling Words and Skills

2. Words that ensue coarse spelling patterns It's impossible to predict and "pre-teach" every word that your child will ever want to write. So it's also wise at each grade level to introduce some coarse spelling rules and patterns for words your second grader is likely to use.

After reviewing words with short vowel sounds, such as bat, red, pink, stop and mug, you'll also need to go over long vowel words that end in silent e at the end, such as make, file, and pole. Also go over some other long-vowel spellings as well. Consider these: feet, sky, and also. Hopefully your second grader learned most of these in first grade.

Then it's time to move on to some or all of these spelling skills:

A. coarse vowel pairs. This includes ow/ou words (crowd, sound, and loud), oo words (look, book) and others.

B. Words with r-influenced vowels. Many, many words comprise ar, er, ir, or, our, and ur. Consider teaching such coarse words as part, father, sir, more, four, fur which can big a big part of your child's vocabulary.

C. Words with consonant blends. Your second graders will be using more and more words with combination's such as br, ch, gl and str.

D. Plurals, both regular and irregular. You'll mostly work on adding -s and -es to spelling words like girls, houses, boxes, and bushes. But there are a few irregulars that should be taught at this level: men, women, feet, teeth, mice and others.

E. Adding coarse suffixes. Practice spelling words that end in -ed and -ing.

F. Contractions. Introduce a few of the most coarse ones, along with don't, aren't, can't and there's. Be sure to teach the concept, not just the spelling.

G. Teach words with igh. Second graders often will use high, night, sight, right, might.

H. Words with silent letters. These comprise snow, comb, talk, and knee.

I. Homophones. It's not too early to begin to teach the literal, usage of to/too/two, there/their/they're and other coarse sets of homophones.

J. Words of interest to the child. If a child is going to be writing about a topic, he needs to learn how to spell words linked to it. So if you're request students to write a story about Christmas, for example, you'll need to teach him to spell the words he wants to use in the story.

Now, as promised, here's our list of 100 basic second grade words. Of course, every spelling curriculum may have a slightly separate list. Our list includes both Dolch/Fry sight words and words that ensue some of the basic spelling patterns listed above. (Note: Some of these were probably taught in 1st grade and may be reviewed again in 3rd grade. Don't worry. Repetition is a good thing!)

Cool Science project For Girls

This science scheme is categorically cool as it uses cold water or room temperature H20 and some balloons to faultless the experiment. In this demonstration you will use a balloon and expose it to the heat of a candle flame.

3Rd Grade Math Activities

This scheme was done by a group of girls and they loved the activity, however, it can be done by a 7th grade student or as an 8th grade science experiment. You can call it a middle school demonstration since both grades should achieve success with this project.

Before you do this you will need the management of a parent or adult and they may categorically want to hold the balloon over the flame and light the matches and candles for you. Please use caution when using matches and candles.

The materials needed for the demonstration:

· 2 balloons

· Water

· Matches

· A tapered candle in a holder

Here are the Instructions for the experiment:

Light the candle with the match.

Blow up the first balloon and tie the end. Hold the balloon over the candle flame. You may want to cover your eyes with protective goggles. This balloon will pop and does so very quickly. Relight the candle with other match. Fill up the other balloon with water. It does not matter what temperature the water is. Tie the end of this water filled balloon.

Hold this over the candle flame. What is happening? You will notice the balloon does not pop like the other balloon. The flame is not hurting the balloon skin. Why does the balloon not pop? The water is sharp the heat and doing so very fast that it avoids damaging the balloon or melting it in any way. You will notice some black debris on the face of the balloon. This is just carbon emitted from the candle flame burning. It can categorically be wiped off with a damp paper towel.

Here is an explanation of why the water keeps the second balloon from popping. It is protecting the balloon and retention it cool adequate to not allow it to break. Do a microscopic explore before you demonstrate this to your audience about the actual heat coming from the flame and why and how the water can discharge the heat even though the balloon is the actual material touching the face of the candle flame.

This is other cool science scheme idea for your next fair experiment.

understanding Constipation

###understanding Constipation###
Advertisements

If there is one condition problem all Americans have in common, it would in fact have to be constipation. Yes, constipation! More than 90% of Americans are constipated. Constipation plays a major role in obesity which is an American epidemic these days.

3Rd Grade Math Activities

The English healing term "constipation" derives from a Latin word constipare which means "to crowd together". Mosby's healing Dictionary, 3rd edition, p. 298.

Constipation occurs when the stools are "crowded together" in the colon. Medically speaking, constipation is defined as: difficulty in passing stools or an incomplete or infrequent tube of hard stools. There are many causes, both organic and functional. Among the organic causes are intestinal obstruction, diverticulitis, and tumors. Functional impairment of the colon may occur in elderly or bedridden patients (persons) who fail to retort to the urge to defecate. Ibid.

The thing that should mentally stick out pertaining to constipation is "hard stools". Question: what would make the stools hard? Evidently, the stools are supposed to be soft. Soft is the opposite of the word "hard". The opposite of hard stools is soft stools. Since hard stools causes constipation, then soft stools reverses constipation. Basic mathematics (common sense)!

Now what causes the stools to come to be hard or hardened? Answer: diet in general and the thorough American Diet in single which contains inordinate meat (slaughtered animal flesh/carcass), dairy products (cow snot/pus/mucus), and starches (stiffening agent, glue). And not only is meat, dairy and starches the problem, but cooking and processing them (in increasing to fruit and vegetables) poses the biggest problem, because cooking (killing, altering) destroys enzymes (life), especially in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and grains.

It is the enzymatic operation of living (raw) foods that causes peristalsis. Peristalsis is the wavelike muscular contractions of the alimentary canal or other tubular structures by which contents are forced onward toward the occasion (rectum).

When you cook (kill, alter) food, you are killing the enzymes with heat. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures above 118°. Cooked food is Dead Food! It is void of life (enzymes). If the colon is dependent upon enzymes or enzymatic operation for peristalsis, how can you expect to have a bowel movement from things lacking enzymes or enzymatic activity?

So not only is cooked food void of enzymes, it is also void of cusine (which is the real purpose for eating food). Cooked, processed, and refined food is what makes the stools hard. Meat by far is the amount one culprit causing hardening of the stools. And for my vegan and vegetarian brethren out there, cooked, processed non-meat substances also make the stools hard. Of course vegan and vegetarian products are softer on the digestive ideas compared to meat, but nevertheless, a cooked thing is a cooked thing, regardless of what is. It is cooking alone that does the major damage (causing constipation).

The opposite of cooked food is raw food. Actually, raw foods too are cooked, but they are cooked by the Sun (solar heat) and not artificial heat (stoves, microwave ovens, electric ovens, etc.). Raw foods are solarized foods and therefore will send vigor to your body, unlike cooked food which makes you tired and fatigued and weighs you down.

Raw fruits and vegetables furnish natural fiber, which is greatly missing from the thorough American Diet. Fiber is great for colon condition and counteracting constipation because fiber bulks up in the colon and becomes mucilaginous and sweeps the walls of the colon which is a very beneficial operation in the colon. It should be elementary that raw fruits and vegetables are the natural healing for constipation.

Meats, dairy, and starches (refined grains, i.e. Pasta [paste], bread, spaghetti, cakes, cookies, donuts, etc.) sit in the colon and rot and putrefy. The worst thing you could put in your colon is meat (cooked or raw) followed by dairy products, refined grains, and complex starches. It takes 96 hours or four days for the body to partially digest meat whereas fruits and vegetables only take 4 hours to digest. Clearly the human body (after being genetically engineered by the Gods of Eden and even after the Fall of Man) was designed to consume fruits and vegetables. However, most Americans eat meat (slaughtered animal flesh) due to the taste (chemicals, salt, blood, and urine) and texture of meat and for purposes of so-called protein (although cooked meat provides 0% protein). We eat for taste today predicated upon eye motion and addiction and not for nutritional purposes. I must state that taste is not the criterion for what is healthy, but nutritional content is. Americans are "tasting" themselves to death in order to satiate their corrupted and polluted taste buds.

I would be remiss not to mention that lack of drinking water plays a role in constipation. Water helps to soften the stools and also to keep the colon lubricated. Because water is electrical, it also stimulates peristalsis just like raw fruits and vegetables. Also, water and enzymes work together! A lot of Americans don't like drinking water. They unwisely drink more soda pop, beer, milk and artificially flavored beverages than water which their body is dependent upon for optimal health.

Constipation is characterized by hard dry stools, straining at stool, painful defecation, abdominal distention, and hemorrhoids. And obviously enough, a protruding pot belly physically denotes constipation.

If you eat three meals a day and are not defecating three times a day - you're constipated! If you are sitting on the toilet for many minutes and straining while defecating and after defecating you only see a pea or pebble sized stool at the bottom of the toilet, you're constipated.

Many infants and babies are sadly constipated today. It hurts my heart to see dinky babies and children constipated because they don't know how to convey this feeling/problem to the parents, regularly the mother. It is such an uncomfortable feeling for them. Chemically processed baby milk formulas and cereal products are nemesis in baby and childhood constipation. Because of this sad fact, I concocted a very efficient herbal citation called Children & Infant's Laxative that in fact gets the job done and brings relief to babies and dinky children. It is very diplomatic on the digestive ideas yet very effective. However, you may go straight through a lot of diapers after giving a baby or young child this formula (Smile).

I admonish parents (mainly mothers) to not give your baby grain (cereal) products for the first two years of life. Grains are too heavy on the digestive tract of babies. And it is my position that no sane and loving parent should or would give their high-priced baby artificial formula baby milk formula. Breastfeed while you can and then get ready your own milk from water, seeds/nuts/oats/fruit (banana, coconut), maple syrup (Grade B or C) and Irish Moss or Iceland Moss or any other seaweed because seaweed is a complete food containing 100% minerals, vitamins, trace elements, and 60-70% bio-protein and is also very oxygenating.

And nowadays fertilization and constipation goes hand in hand, but it is not natural for a pregnant woman to be constipated. The two many reasons for pregnancy-related constipation are poor diet and curious pharmaceutical-grade Iron tablets or pills. I am working on a booklet/article at present (and taking my own sweet time) entitled The exquisite fertilization that is based upon the experiences of my ex-wife's first fertilization with our daughter Layla and my herbal prenatal regimen I utilized.

It will address birthing positions, home birth, legal issues, diet and nutrition, constipation, exercises (breathing/stretching/Yoga), aromatherapy, eclampsia (toxicity), arresting of headaches, sciatica arresting with chiropractic help, classical music therapy, massage and reflexology, prayer and meditation and affirmations (for a safe delivery and wholesome baby) and the booklet will also address counteracting infertility and impotence in increasing to face profound exercises and techniques utilizing unavoidable sexual positions, gemstones and elixirs, magnetic pads, valuable oils, Eastern mystic/spiritual music, and prayer and meditation for conceiving a Star or Stellar Child (God or Goddess) on the Fourth Density or Dimensional level upon corporeal arrival.

Moving on,

Constipation can be reversed or eradicated by changing or modifying your diet by cutting out or cutting back on meats, dairy products and cooked starches and eating more raw fruits and vegetables and drinking more water. Movement (physical exercise) can and will also help.

Professional colonics and/or enemas (performed at home by your self) can also help to eradicate constipation.

Prune juice and plum juice are ideal in battling constipation. When the colon is constipated, it's the equivalent of a clogging/stoppage in your sink. When your sink is clogged, you call a plumber. A plumber unclogs a drain just like plum juice unclogs your colon. In the word "plumber" we find the word "plum." Here is wisdom!

And by far, the best help and remedy for constipation is herbs. Cathartic and laxative herbs will greatly help to eradicate constipation. Herbs such as Senna (leaves/pods), Cascara Sagrada, Aloe Vera resin, Rhubarb, Mandrake, Bilwa, Glucomannan, Bibitaki, Buckthorn, and Jalap Root will stimulate and improve peristalsis. Senna is a very superior African herb that will greatly unclog the colon and reverse constipation. In fact, pharmaceutical-grade Ex Lax laxative now contains Senna.

Along with the herbs supra, fiber and mucilaginous herbs such as Psyllium Husks, Pamita, Fennel, Guar Gum, Acacia Gum, Oats, Irish Moss, glossy Elm bark, and Kelp will help to eradicate constipation by constantly bulking up and sweeping the walls of the colon. Irish Moss is a very invaluable herb (sea weed, ocean herb) as it aids in the formation of stools. And unlike pharmaceutical-grade laxatives, you can't come to be addicted to using an herb as a laxative or for laxative purposes.

In regards to Psyllium Husks, I don't recommend taking a lot of Psyllium Husk by itself because many population have come to be clogged due to taking too much of it. I had this experience myself back in the late 1990s. Psyllium has a profound bulking operation and can bulk up too much in the colon development you feel constipated for hours. Therefore, I recommend taking Psylium Husk in conjunction with a seaweed (i.e. Irish Moss, Bladderwrack) and a laxative herb (i.e. Senna, Cascara Sagrada, Rhubarb).

Dherbs offers four spectacular, and superior formulas for the colon that will remedy or prevent constipation - Bowel Mover, Colon Conditioner, Sen-Fen, and Intestinal Janitor.

Bowel Mover is ideal for continuing constipation. It is a cathartic (powerful laxative). Colon condition is a laxative. It too will help in cases of constipation but it is not as superior as Bowel Mover. It is mainly a maintenance formula that will stimulate peristalsis, keep the colon clean, and bring out large, bulky stools (log jammers). It is also safe to take in fertilization to rectify or prevent constipation. Sen-Fen is for immediate relief in constipation. It also brings out bulky stools and a lot of them too. Sen-Fen is compounded with Fennel seed and Psyllium Husk to prevent or balance out the natural gripping ensue of Senna. Senna is so superior that it even makes dead people's bowels move. This experiment has been tested and verified. Intestinal janitor is a fiber formula that provides natural fiber. Because it contains bulk-forming herbs, it will bulk up and keep the walls of the colon clean.

Constipation is 100% reversible/healable and there is a plethora of natural remedies and tools to sustain you in overcoming the American epidemic of constipation.

Easy Egg Science Projects

###Easy Egg Science Projects###

In this report we will look at some captivating experiments and science fair projects you can admittedly do with eggs from the refrigerator. You will contemplate that the base egg has some marvelous properties you might not be aware of.

3Rd Grade Math Activities

There are a amount of egg science projects you can do but I will mention just a few here to spark your interest. I'm sure you will be able to think of many more by using a exiguous imagination.

The Egg Drop Science Experiment

For this experiment you will come up with a way to upholstery an egg in a small package so it doesn't break when dropped from a confident height. You can use something like a small coffee can that leaves adequate room for your containers nearby the egg to protect it from the fall.

You will need to do a exiguous explore to conclude what might be favorable materials to keep the egg from breaking. Lots of room to experiment here for sure with different materials and arrangements of the egg in the container.

Do all your drop tests from a set height such as six to eight feet. Also drop the package on the same outside each time to keep your results consistent. As all the time with any science project, keep records of what you did and the results of each drop test.

The Crushing power Egg Science Project

One very captivating feature of eggs is their strength. That power though is very dependent on the orientation of the egg to the force or weight that is applied to it.

So for this experiment you will conclude if eggs are stronger lying flat or standing upright. You may also get an idea of how much stronger they are in one position than the other. I think you will find this very surprising just how much a disagreement the position of the egg makes.

What you will need for this egg science project:

Remove the top from the carton and place four eggs toward the center and in a rectangular arrangement. Leave a space in the middle of them on each row. Place a plastic bag on the table under the carton. Place the other bag over the eggs.

Now start placing books on the eggs one at a time. Make sure they are even and don't tip over. See how many you can place before an egg breaks. Weigh all the books used if you have a scale. You now have an idea of their power end-to-end.

Test their power lying flat:

Place a bag on the table and make four loops of tape with the sticky side out. Place the tape on the bag in about the same arrangement as the eggs were in the carton. Put one egg flat side down on each piece of tape. This is to keep the eggs from rolling around.

Place an additional one bag over the eggs and then start placing books. How many books did it take before an egg broke? Weigh the books if you have a scale. You now know whether eggs are stronger upright or lying flat. And you have an idea how much stronger they are in that one position than the other.

I hope you enjoyed these experiments and use your imagination to create even more captivating egg science projects you can do at home.

Closer look into patent pending approach of developing 7 senses in children so they can learn math on their own - same way they learned how to walk, speak or socialize What are the 7 Math Senses? They are the foundation of all math education. This approach is deeply rooted in the cognitive sciences and has repeatedly been shown to dramatically boost math scores. It also changes math anxiety to math excitement. The secret to fractions and decimals is that numbers and quantities have special relationships. These relationships, the 7 Math Senses, are easy to learn. Most teachers assume that students know these relationships and rarely teach them. Instead math becomes the meaningless and boring memorization of skills, facts and procedures. The 7 Senses may look simple but they are exactly what is holding them back— and preventing them from loving math. We promise that learning math has never been easier or enjoyable.

Do you know about - My Only Regrets From Homeschooling - Use Them To Learn How to Homeschool

3Rd Grade Math! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

This summer, my husband and I got to take our three grown children and son-in-law to England for a family vacation. (Ever since then I have been on a historical fiction kick. I just concluded reading a novel about Lady Jane Grey, and I am reading one right now about Queen Elizabeth.) One thing I was assuredly struck by was how they go out and walk straight through nature and just enjoy the out of doors. They also have a tutor who is right there working with them and request them questions.

What I said. It isn't outcome that the real about 3Rd Grade Math. You see this article for facts about a person wish to know is 3Rd Grade Math.

How is My Only Regrets From Homeschooling - Use Them To Learn How to Homeschool

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from 3Rd Grade Math.

It got me to mental that I wish I lived while that day and age and could raise my kids in that culture. The way I homeschooled my children left me with a few regrets. Now do not get me wrong, the time when I was homeschooling was one of the best seasons of my life. The pace and operation was just right for our family, and I loved looking my children light up as they learned different things about our world. But if I had it to do all over again, I would probably turn three things...

How to Homeschool - Regret #1 - Nature Studies

But for some reason, I was assuredly struck as I was reading about Queen Elizabeth. I wish we had done a limited bit of nature studies. Of course, that means we would have started homeschooling earlier when my children were about 4 or 5 years old.

Nature studies involves going out to the park and studying about whatever is colse to us. I love the idea of spending a limited more time discovering the world straight through nature. I do not mean walking with no purpose. I mean, you see a tree and get excited. Then you go and research all about it. The children are able to enjoy God's creation a limited bit more this way. I think this is such a great idea that I am even hoping that when we have grandkids that would be something I would like to do with them.

How to Homeschool - Regret #2 - Reading

In our later years of homeschooling I spent more time reading aloud to my kids. I wish we had spent more time on language, reading, those type of things in the younger years and then assuredly did more specific academics starting in 6th, 7th or 8th grade. I know that is a radical thing to say, but the truth is that all things a child assuredly needs to learn can be taught straight through reading and discussing with a mentor.

This is the method well-meaning parents had used for centuries before the idea of public schools came along.

But I think I did not I manufacture this mindset until halfway straight through homeschooling. With my son, who was my third child, I approached school this way. For example, I took him off textbook math. Now that does not mean we did not ever do math. Math is all colse to you, and you cannot help but do math.

As far as memorizing times tables, we did not do that until he got into 6th grade. I will be honest and admit there were a combine of limited embarrassing moments for him, like when he was in 3rd grade in the baseball dugout and did not know definite times tables. He figured them out pretty speedily just on his own, but he was not initially in the same place as all the other kids.

Once we did start math, he caught up to the public school kids within about a year. He even got a math award last year and is taking calculus this year.

It just goes to show that moms and dads sometimes get too worked up about trying to cram all things into our kids so young. Take it easy. I wish I had just taken it easy and done a lot more reading.

How to Homeschool - Regret #3 - Spanish

The other thing I wish I would have taken benefit of with my kids when they were young was their foreign language development. I assuredly wish that I had been more diligent to teach them Spanish. My family and I live in Texas, and we are all wishing we knew more Spanish. I wish while those developmental ages, from 4 to 8 years old, that I had spent more time doing that than math or whatever else it was.

Even if I had even taken 15 minutes a day to work on Spanish, either listening to Spanish tapes or looking some Spanish Dvds, stories like cartoons, or watching a movie we had in Spanish, I know my kids would be great for it.

Honestly, it is too easy to look back and see all the things I wish we would have done differently. If I had it to do all over again I would combine all of these things I just mentioned, but I would also do a lot of it the same. In the end the goal is still the same: to raise leaders, not just followers. So the key is to focus on those things that will produce the end goal. No wonder so many ask, "How do I homeschool?"
